Anglicare Gordon | Display Suite 2
As a designer, I understand the crucial role that design plays in creating a comfortable and familiar living environment for aged care residents. A well-designed space not only promotes independence and well-being but also provides a sense of home and happiness. One of the ways to achieve this is by designing spaces that cater to residents' hobbies and interests.
Recently, I had the opportunity to work with the Marketing Department of Anglicare on the decoration of three display suites for their new aged care facility in Gordon. For one of the suites, we envisioned a space for a grandmother who enjoys needlepoint and knitting and has young grandchildren.
Our starting point was incorporating the furniture provided by the client: an armchair, bedside table and hospital bed. These pieces add to the to the functionality of the space and provides continuity throughout the facility. To make the room feel less institutional and more like home, we dressed the hospital bed with linens and pillows, styled the bedside table with objects and mementos, and situated the arm chair in the window, along with a basket of knitting.
Our focus was to create a neutral palette that would allow for personal touches to be added through accessories and decor. The base palette was kept neutral to provide a timeless and versatile design that could adapt to the resident's personal style.
By designing a space that caters to the resident's hobbies and interests, we aimed to create a homely and welcoming environment for her to enjoy her hobbies and spend time with her grandchildren. This helps to foster a sense of comfort and familiarity in the space and promote independence and well-being for the resident.
Signature Scent: Tasmania 1 by The Raconteur; a blend of Native Tasmanian pepper, lemon myrtle, boronia, thyme, sage, sassafras, cedarwood, vetiver.
